Council votes to oppose the national speed-limit reductions
Tipperary County Council passed a motion — brought by Cllr Niall Dennehy — calling on the authority not to implement the new national speed-limit reductions (including 80→60 km/h on rural local roads), described as ‘unworkable and counterproductive’. The 60 km/h reduction took effect on the road regardless, as a national change, on 7 February 2025.

60 km/h default takes effect — as a national change
The default limit on rural local roads (including this road) fell from 80 to 60 km/h under the Road Traffic Act 2024 — a national re-limiting, not a local decision responding to a known hazard. TCC published the notice.

Councillor asks for a crash barrier at the bridge; engineer defers to the Garda investigation
At the Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting, Cllr John O'Heney asked the council to consider safety measures (a crash barrier or similar) at the bridge. The senior engineer responded that the matter was subject to the ongoing Garda investigation — ‘if there's something we need to do we'll do it.’

Overlay resurfacing on the road — two months after the death
TCC carried out ‘essential overlay’ roadworks on the L-31011-0 (Kilmoyler), closing the road 25–27 June 2025. This is the documented 2025 resurfacing on this road — and it took place about two months after 24 April 2025. The father's account matches: ‘They started fixing it and tidying it up a few weeks after the accident.’

Cllr Louise Morgan Walsh criticised national road-safety measures as ‘missing the real issue’, called for a fully-staffed Roads Policing Unit, noted ~400 fewer dedicated Garda roads-policing officers nationally than in 2009, and said Tipperary has ‘a number of blackspots in the county where numerous collisions have occurred’.
